Industrial Metal Fabrication with Extensive Equipment Capacity
Custom Engineering is Pennsylvania’s leading ISO-9001:2015 Certified by NQA industrial metal fabrication company with extensive equipment capacity and considerable industry experience. In addition to servicing customers throughout Pennsylvania, Custom Engineering has built a global reputation for its large-scale fabrication capabilities that have helped advance countless industries. This wide acclaim for its services is not accidental and depends on a robust combination of technology, skilled personnel, and extensive equipment capacity. This article will discuss the varying capabilities and equipment at Custom Engineering that help support its position as a leading industrial metal fabricator and the many parts and industries that depend on these services for their success.
Varying Capabilities & Sizes of Equipment at Custom Engineering
To become a premier provider of large-scale metal fabrication services it takes more than just a large building or new heavy-lifting equipment. Custom’s decades of success are backed by a comprehensive strategy to integrate large-scale equipment that has helped expand its viability to new and exciting industries that demand robust parts. Several of the leading factors behind Custom’s success as an industrial fabrication company are detailed below.
- Brake Press: Custom currently operates three massive brake presses for forming and pending material for industrial metal fabrication projects. This includes a 230-ton press with a 14’ opening, a 350-ton press with a 14’ opening, and a tremendous 700-ton press with a 12’ opening for the most demanding applications.
- Processing Tables & Cutting Capacity: It takes a robust set of plasma and oxy-fuel cutting tables to handle the processing of incredibly thick sheet metal and Custom Engineering houses some of the largest tables available on the market today. The cutting tables measure 144” x 500” between rails and afford Custom the flexibility to process full sheets of steel that measure up to 96” x 240”. Additionally, these tables can cut material up to 12” thick for specialty applications.
- Rotating Immense Workpieces: To ensure precise welds on large components required in industrial metal fabrication, Custom Engineering utilizes three separate positioners to hold and rotate the workpieces. The weight capacity is different for each and can precisely move and position workpieces with weights up to 50,000 pounds.
- Crane & Fork Capacity: Moving full sheets of thick metal and large weldments is no easy task and requires an expansive crane and forklift capacity. Custom Engineering maintains crane capacity to move up to 160,000 pounds throughout the facility with precise accuracy and control. The largest forklift is capable of lifting roughly a third of this weight, at 55,000 pounds.
- Building Size: All of this extensive equipment capacity is housed in a 200,000-square-foot facility dedicated to robust fabrication services.
Custom’s Experience as a Industrial Metal Fabrication Company
As a fully integrated and ISO-9001:2015 Certified by NQA company with extensive equipment capacity, Custom Engineering has served some of the most demanding world-class companies. All aspects of the fabrication process are completed in-house, reducing lead times and costs to customers. Additionally, each large-scale fabrication project benefits from on-staff AWS-certified welding professionals who possess the necessary experience and education to complete reliable welds on robust weldments and other demanding assemblies. For decades, Custom Engineering has solidified itself among the transportation, power generation, defense, mining, construction, and oil and gas industries.
Examples of Parts that Require Robust Capacity
- Heavy-Duty Weldments: This broad term encompasses a wide range of industrial fabrication projects including the various housings or bases used in power generation equipment like compressor housings, console bases, and robust base plates for gas or steam turbines.
- Structural Components: Our AWS-certified welding professionals possess the requisite D1.1 certification for welding structural steel and use it to produce a variety of complex fabrications for the military, transportation, shipping, and construction industries. This typically includes things like storage tanks, expansive shipping racks to protect large equipment, and even structural components used in amusement park rides.
- Baseplates & Skids: Our extensive equipment capacity is critical to the fabrication of heavy-duty baseplates and skids used to provide solid foundations for gas turbines, massive compressors, and power generators. Base plates produced at Custom have provided structurally sound platforms for OEM equipment and even large-scale off-shore oil rigs.
- ASME-Certified Pressure Vessels: All pressure vessels are manufactured following ASME Section VIII Division I standards and are used to contain both gasses and liquids. These robust assemblies require all aspects of Custom’s extensive equipment capacity, welding expertise, and premium materials.
